The Art of  Wearing

How you wear your jewelry is the first step in preserving its brilliance. Gold plating responds delicately to its environment, so mindful wear is essential.

  • Make it the final touch: Put your jewelry on last, after applying perfumes, lotions, hairsprays, and cosmetics. The chemicals in these everyday products can accelerate the fading of gold plating.

  • Keep it dry: Remove your pieces before showering, bathing, or swimming. Chlorine, saltwater, and prolonged exposure to moisture will gently wear away the gold finish over time.

  • Rest during activity: We recommend taking off your jewelry before exercising or engaging in strenuous tasks, as perspiration and natural body oils can dull the metal's shine.

Gentle Cleaning

  • Wipe after use: After wearing, gently wipe your jewelry with a soft, lint-free cloth (like microfiber or cotton) to remove any lingering oils or dust.

  • Skip the polishing cloth: Traditional jewelry polishing cloths often contain subtle abrasives intended for solid metals. These can unintentionally strip away the 14k gold plating. Stick to a simple, untreated soft cloth.

  • Deep cleaning: If your piece requires a more thorough cleaning, use a touch of mild, fragrance-free soap diluted in warm water. Gently pat dry immediately and completely before storing.

  • Embrace the dark and dry: Store your jewelry in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight and humidity. Bathrooms are often too humid for delicate plated pieces.

  • Use the original pouch: We recommend storing your jewelry in the soft pouch or lined box it arrived in. This provides a safe, dark environment that naturally slows down the oxidation process of sterling silver and brass.
